Maths Activity

Today for maths we did individual activities, I needed to work out the perimeters of the rectangle and add them up to get the answer to my problem solving question I got. This was good understanding but kinda hard when it comes upto the adding bit with these huge numbers. This was fun to do and learning how to add the width and length.

A picture tells a thousand words

Today I did another reading activity about the picture of Mr and Mrs Gock and talking about how the picture inspires me. This was fun to do and learning more and more about the Gock family.

Photo Album

I decided to do another activity about Mr and Mrs Gock, it was making a photo album with the images I collected and putting them together. This was fun to do and picking all the images and making this photo album for one of the activities I did for reading this week.

Gock Family

This is what I've been doing for our reading activities for the past days/week. We've been learning about Mr and Mrs Gock, and there family and what they invented, what they changed about the world. A interesting fact/information I learnt about Mr and Mrs Gocks is they invented seedless watermelon, stickers on fruits/vegetables, and having fresh broccoli. This is the fun learning we do learning about these great people who helped New Zealand and the world with everything they did.

Te Oro Workshop Trip

Today we went to the Te Oro workshop as a school trip, we went with the whole room 7 and room half of room 9. First we went on the bus and took our bags with our lunches in it and everything else that we needed. When we got there we meet one of the teachers that was gonna teach us. We had to wait outside for a little while then we took off our shoes and went inside while they were singing. Then we sat down while one of the other teachers were saying a karakia / prayer. After that they all introduced us to them and talked about what activity they're gonna do. After all of that talking we went into groups and them went to our work shop tables and started with our lesson that we got today. We were mostly talking about Matariki and the importance of it. My group first did art, we did 4 patterns that were Pikopiko, Niho, Koru, Margpie that were the 4 designs we did today for art with our 2 teachers. This was fun to do so after that we went to see the rocks with Whare Kelly and she was telling us the story behind all of it and why its important for us to keep it and how long shes keep her rock for. Later on after all her talking we went back in the work shop and started painting our rocks and designs them. This was fun to do, after that painting we went outside and learnt the Matariki maccerna. After learning that each group got up and they had 3 speakers to talk about what they did, and something they learnt during there work shop lessons. After that everyone standed up and did the dance that we learnt then sang a song then said a closing karakia. Today was a fun day because I learnt something different and new and it was so much fun going on this school trip after lockdown.

Brain lesson with Mrs Turner

Yesterday we got a brain lesson with Mrs Tuner, we learnt different things from the other time she came to Glenbrae school. Yesterday's was about the simple things about our brains and AMYGDALA. The first thing she told us about our brains and names about it and then she told us about the bones behind our head which was the bone and alerts the other body parts. After learning all about that we watched a video about a producer and her kids telling us about what they feel and everything else. This brain lesson was fun and learning about brains was a good thing. After the video she was telling us about it and asking us questions about the video that we watched on the t.v. Later on she taught us something to do with our hands, So we used our hands as a example of the smoke alarm and the senors it tells your body if your safe or now. So the thumb was the switch / on and off and the rest of our fingers were telling us if we were safe or not. Example - The smoke alarm went off because it smelt fire, thats the senor that told the smoke alarm to go off and sometimes it plays up so you need to becareful with smoke alarms because sometimes they can fool you. This is what we learnt yesterday about brains.

Rhys Maths Activity 1

This week for Maths we were solving Rhys maths activity, and we were solving it. This was fun to do and kinda confusing but we got the hang of it and answered it and got the answer to this problem solving.

Reading Enjoyment

Today I was reading a article about the New Zealand warriors on kiwi kids news. It was talking about how they lost there game to rabbitohs 40 - 12 they're game was in Sydney on a friday night, And during 2020 they had a roller coaster season with having six games and only won 2 games. This was shocking news for me cause I thought they won all there games except for 2 or more. But this was fun reading it and shocking news for others.

Individual work

How do these images support the text about the Gocks winning the Bledisloe cup?

This is an image of the award / prize that Mr and Mrs Gock won when they saved the kumara from dying in New Zealand. They got this award because they’ve been saving and inventing lots of things which changed New Zealand.

This is an image of a broccoli that Mr and Mrs Gock kept fresh and they’ve been saving it in cooler boxes, they invented something that was when the broccoli was yellow they didn't know what to do with it so they invented something that was about having a cooler box and putting the broccoli in to keep it nice and fresh.

This image is  about having less seeds in the watermelon. This is something that Mr and Mrs Gock invented in New Zealand which changed the fruit and vegetable shop.

This is another image of Mr and Mrs Gock who  invented putting stickers on the fruits and vegetables individually. They did this so people would know which fruit/ vegetable is which.

This image is about Mr and Mrs Gock saving the kumara, and also getting a award/prize for saving New Zealand's kumara.

This is an image of  Mr Gock holding the box with the fresh fruits and vegetables in it, they’re trying to keep the fruits and vegetables cold and they used this box and they’re cooler.

Today for reading I did a activity about Mr and Mrs Gock, they've been working on inventing things and saving vegetables and fruits. This was about how I support the text about the Gocks family winning the bledisloe cup. This is what I've been doing for reading, which is a reflection for the individual work.

This is another maths task we got to do, which was problem solving one of our other activites. This was confusing and fun to do because i was trying to measure it. This is fun to do because I'm trying something kinda new and kinda hard at the same time, but I got the time to understand everything I needed to do to get the answer to my maths problem solving.

Maths

Today for maths we've doing fractions, we did making ta'ovala as our problem that we needed to solve. The question was Malakai's mother is making ta'ovala for all the boys in the Tongan group at school, Each boy needed 1 1/2 meters of mat and she has 30 metres. How many ta'ovala does she make? We need to problem solve how many boys were in the Tongan group and how many metres they need for their ta'ovala. My group was Ali-Jon, Soane, Valarie and I, we were working together and helping each other out so that we could get the answer to it. We first problem solved the 1 boy and added it with 1 1/2 and we got 3 metres and then we did it over and over until we got 10. But then after that we were getting the answer which was 20 but we thought it was a different answer so we did it the same way that the other group did so we got the answer 20. Then it was times up for finding out the answer to it, so then the other groups got to solve it so then we finished with our maths lesson.

Maths Observation

Today we had a maths observation and we had Mr den here with us today. Today was fun learning how to add the fractions together and learning some new things. We first got into our maths group and Mrs Tofa was working with our group which was taha. We were solving a fractions problem where the each house had 10 liters of water and the two groups that finished there water was Nikau and Kauri, and the 2 other groups that never finished there water was Rata and Kowhai and we needed to solve how much water was left altogether. At first my group that I was working with was a bit confusing but then they explained it to me and then I finally got the hang of it and knew what I needed to do. So this was lots of fun learning something I haven't learnt.

Brainstorming

This week for writing we're doing a explanation about harakeke and this is my brainstorming of me putting my ideas down of what goes into which paragraph. This was fun to do but kinda hard thinking about what ideas im gonna put in each to talk about the harakeke.

Harakeke

This week for reading we've been learning about harakeke. In this reading Victoria and I been working together and answered 2 questions about harakeke. This was so much fun to do and I really enjoyed doing this and learning something new about harakeke.
