Activity 1: Making the racket

This is the first activity for day 4. Its only the first week of doing the summer learning journey activities. This is the activity of women getting less paid and men getting more money and 3 facts about Venus and Serena Williams and what I want to know about tennis and other information. I did this activity by watching the videos that were given and write down 3 facts about the two videos that I have been watching and learning new information that I didn't.

  3. Kia Ora Miiana,

It’s awesome to see that you are participating in the Summer Learning Journey, keep up the great work! The gender pay gap is an interesting discussion that is happening all over the world. Originally only men were allowed to play most sports. Another example of the gender pay gap in sport in the All Blacks and Black Ferns. International rugby has been played for over 100 years by men from New Zealand whereas an international women’s rugby team only started playing in the 1990s. The Black Ferns are now growing in popularity and people are supporting them more and more. If this is something you are interested in, you could do some more research into it.

As it is the holiday period many of the Summer Learning Journey team are currently away from work and are spending some time with their friends and family. This means that you would get many encouraging comments over this time. We want you to keep blogging and we will comment on as many of your posts as we can when everyone is back at work!

    Keep the blogging up!

    Blog ya later,

    Dani

  5. Hi Miiana,
I found it interesting that you think there's a pay gap between men and women in sports. The reason that men are usually paid more in sports like football (American and English), rugby, tennis and other physical contact sports is because of anatomy. Men are typically stronger and faster than women, this means that watching men compete is a lot more entertaining compared to a women's game.
